Taking a starting point in the traditional Swedish handicraft, Ornamental Obsession aims to design a collection of contemporary surface patterns by exploring and interpreting traditionally common patterns, such as curbits and folklore paintings. The project questions how the classic motives could be designed in a modern and innovative manner, using modern technology and methods, in order to renew the expression.
With the element of interpretation as a method to design, this project allows the surface patterns to reinforce the knowledge of traditional craftsmanship and establish a new legacy that can act as a link to pattern history and as an archive of today.
